Fundraiser for DJ
Dear Valued Sponsor,
Valley Angels for Families was founded in 2011. We are a non-profit organization formed to help local families through difficult times. Each year, the committee selects a new recipient to benefit from our fundraising efforts. We give to them 100% of our profits (no administration fees).
This year’s receipt is DJ DiVincenzo and his family. Their story has touched us all.
David and Jennifer DiVincenzo were blessed with two beautiful and fun loving boys, DJ (10) and Max (6). Like most parents, their hope is to give them the best life possible however they have been faced with many challenges along the way. Ten years ago, DJ was born with a few different complex congenital heart defect, which required him to have multiple surgeries at birth. He spent most of the first year of his life in the hospital in NYC and ultimately ended up having a heart transplant at the tender age of 6 months. After the transplant his heart thrived; however his body was left immune-compromised, which resulted in him spending many visits in the hospital over the next several years. Typical childhood illnesses would result in a hospital stay for DJ. Aside from the heart surgeries, DJ also has undergone many other procedures and surgeries. He continues to undergo cardiac procedures every year.
His parents feel blessed to live in a country that has access to great healthcare and insurance but unfortunately the out of pocket costs for procedures and medications are still very exorbitant. In addition to the medical issues, DJ has faced challenges with learning, coordination, and behaviors which stem from his complex medical history. Many medications that are typically administered to help with some of those challenges cannot be used, because they conflict with his cardiac status. They have searched and utilized alternative interventions and therapies to help him thrive, but unfortunately many of those services come with a hefty prize and are also not covered by insurance.
“Though we are faced with many challenges it has not stopped our resolve to get him what he needs. DJ is a sweet, charismatic boy and full of love with so much potential. It is our hope, as his parents, that we may do our very best to help him reach all of his dreams. We feel so blessed that he received his donor heart and are very thankful of the unselfishness of his donor family, which has enabled us to have ten wonderful years enjoying and loving him. It is with much gratitude that we would like to say thank you for supporting Valley Angels so that we may continue to have many more years in order to watch him flourish and achieve greatness. The golf tournament will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Whitney Farms Golf Course in Monroe, CT. Tee time is 12 pm Dinner to follow at 6 pm. Those not golfing, can attend the dinner.
